Bohol is one of those places you for sure need to visit.

The island not only has beautiful beaches like Alona Beach or Dumaluan Beach, as well as an amazing natural landscape…

…but it also has plenty of places to have fun and experience the Filipino culture, head first.

Firstly, Where Is Bohol? Things to do in Bohol

The big island of Bohol is located in the Central Visayas region, in the South of Cebu City, in the Philippines.

There are many ways to get there, from around the country, however, If you are far from Bohol and need a plane, I truly recommend you to travel with Cebu Pacific, directly to Tagbilaran (Bohol’s capital) Airport.

From some places, you can also travel to Tagbilaran by ferry on Supercat or Oceanjet companies.

Now…The Best Things To Do In Bohol:

1- Have Fun And Relax In Dumaluan Beach

This white sand beach is located in the Panglao Island area of Bohol, in the Philippines.

After spending a week on Panglao Island, I’m convinced that Dumaluan Beach is one of the best beaches in the Philippines for relaxing. Alona beach is fantastic too, but I chose Dumaluan Beach over Alona because it’s usually not as crowded.

Many people say that Dumaluan Beach is the most beautiful beach in Bohol. What do you think? Do you like it?

2- Visit Alona Beach is one of the best things to do in Bohol

Here’s another beautiful beach that you can’t miss in Bohol. Let me tell you that Alona Beach is one of the most developed beaches on Panglao Island. Alona is a great place to catch the sunset on the island and a romantic place at night.

In front of the beach, you’ll see a lot of souvenir stores, restaurants, and accommodations. This beach is a great place to have a meal, enjoy the view, take a nap, swim, go for a massage, kayaking, snorkel, or scuba diving.

3- Enjoy The View Of The Chocolate Hills

Chocolate Hills are located in Carmen, Bohol. If you want to enjoy the amazing view of these hills, firstly, you need to climb the 214 steps to the top. There are a bit more than 1770 hills on a 50 square kilometer area.

The name Chocolate Hills is because in summer the grass turns brown, like chocolate.

I remember it was really hot when I decided to go see this place…and let me tell you I went in August, in the wet season. Definitely not for the faint of heart! However, I enjoyed it a lot!

Before climbing the steps, be smarter than I was, and go with a bottle of water and an umbrella (to protect you from the strong sun).

4- Visit The Tarsier Sanctuary-Things to do in Bohol

Tarsiers are like the symbol of Bohol Island. You can find that little “monkey” in a lot of souvenir stores around Bohol.

Tarsiers are the smallest primates in the world and they are very shy and solitary animals. They live approximately 25 years in the wild but only 2 to 12 years in captivity. This small and cute animal is so easy to stress and they can die easily. So, if you’re planning to visit the tarsiers, please don’t use selfie sticks, don’t take photos with a flash, and don’t talk loudly or make too much noise. Really, they can easily die because of that.

To get to the sanctuary, you have to take the bus going to Corella or rent a motorbike from Tagbilaran City.

5- Butterfly garden. Things to do in Bohol

This amazing garden full of butterflies is located in Bilar, an interior town located 41 kilometers from Tagbilaran City, Bohol´s capital.

After paying a cheap entrance fee of around 20 pesos, you´ll be able to see hundreds of butterflies of different species and have some information about them.

There you´ll learn and observe the whole life cycle of this beautiful insect.

6- Go to Baclayon Church

This church was founded by the priest Juan de Torres and Gabriel Sánchez in 1596 and became the oldest Christian settlement in Bohol.

The entrance to the church is free but if you want to enter the museum you need to pay, but don’t worry, the ticket is cheap, around 50 pesos per person (1 dollar each).

7- Explore Hinagdanan Cave

This cave is located in Dauis municipality on Panglao Island, Bohol. Hinagdanan cave is made of limestone and the entrance is a hole of about 1 meter in diameter.

Since daylight can enter easily inside the cave, it’s unsuitable for bats, so you don’t have to be afraid of anything.

When we went there, I remember that the entrance fee cost around 50 pesos. That day I decided not to swim inside the cave, but really, I recommend you do it! It should be a great experience. If you choose to swim, however, you need to pay a bit more in addition, but not more than 15 or 20 pesos per person, which is close to nothing.

8- Cross over the Bamboo Hanging Bridge

This Bridge, crossing the Sipatan River in the municipality of Sevilla, Bohol, is a very fun tourist attraction.

First, check how many people are crossing the bridge before you walk on it. The bridge moves…and moves a lot, you can feel unsafe or a bit dizzy.

Over the Bridge, you´ll have a great view of the Sipatan River below.

9- Blood Pact Site. Things to do in Bohol Island.

Located in Tagbilaran City, in Bohol, this site was made in honor of a very important event in Filipino history.

This monument represents the blood pact between the Spanish Miguel Lopez Legazpi and Datu Sikatuna, the Bohol’s chieftain. They performed cuts on their own arms, mixed the blood in a cup of wine, and drank equally.

The pact was sealed on March 16 in 1565.

10- Python Sanctuary

In this place, you will see different snakes and animals. I think is more like a Zoo than a python sanctuary.

I really love snakes so I went there and enjoyed it a lot, but…if you don´t like them…don´t worry, there are a bit more animals to see.
