Firstly, about the province of Leyte

Leyte´s province is located in the east of Cebu Island, in the eastern Visayas region, in the Visayan Sea.

The most populated cities of this province are Tacloban, its capital, and Ormoc City. The province of Leyte is amazing!

The spoken languages in Leyte are Waray and Cebuano (Visaya).

Some interesting facts are: that Leyte is the seventh longest island in the Philippines and the San Joanico bridge of Leyte is the longest bridge in the country.

Secondly, how to go to Leyte?

It depends on where you are, you can choose to go by plane or by boat.

From Cebu or other nearby places, you can go to Ormoc City by Supercat or Oceanjet companies.

If you are in Cebu and planning to go directly to Palompon to visit Kalanggaman Island, I recommend you to travel on the Cokaliong ship.

If you are so far from Leyte´s province, you can go flying on some of these airlines: Cebu Pacific, AirAsia, or Philippine Airlines.

Our trip to the province of Leyte

After arriving in the Philippines and spending two days in the city of Cebu, we traveled to the province of Leyte to visit my wife’s family. Just enjoy The Province of Leyte.

Her family didn´t know she was in the Philippines, we made a surprise trip!

We arrived at the port of Cebu so early in the morning and bought tickets to go to Ormoc by Supercat.

To travel, we had to wait in the port of Cebu for approximately 3 hours, so I spent time receiving massages from some blind people who go to work there, while my wife went to supermarkets and nearby stores.

After those 3 hours, we were ready to travel!

After reaching the Ormoc´s port, we decided to eat, so we walked a few blocks to the nearest Jollibee. Then, we went to the bus station to wait for a van to go to Carigara. I love Carigara in the province of Leyte!

One of the things that caught my attention was that once inside the van, we had to wait like 1 hour. The vans needed to be full of passengers before leaving. Carigara in Leyte province is a great town!

Once in Carigara, we paid for a tricycad to go to Carigara´s Market and we took a tricycle going to Barugo.

Visiting the Family in the province of Leyte

After arriving in Barugo, I began to notice that I no longer saw tourists, only Filipino people, “natives” of Leyte.

We stayed there for 4 incredible days with her family, eating fresh seafood we caught, walking around the beach of Barugo, and visiting places like Carigara´s Market, Tacloban City, and Palompon, all of them in the province of Leyte.

Every morning we enjoyed so much walking around and playing with the kids.

The beach of the place is not a beach of crystalline waters but it has its charm.

In the place where we were, many fishermen live there and always wait for the high tide time to go out to look for food with their boats.

The sand on that beach was full of holes because a lot of crabs live there and we had to be very careful about not walking on the crabs or stepping on jellyfish.

I woke up quickly on the morning of the second day when I heard my wife´s uncle saying we were going to tour around the island in his boat. Is great to play with the kids in Leyte Province.

I remember that day like it was yesterday. When the tide went high, we received help from all the people there to push the Bangka (boat) to the water. I love the province of Leyte!

After dodging several jellyfish, we´re ready to go!

After some minutes, we went down to another beach a few kilometers from Barugo. The province of Leyte is great!

There, we took advantage of swimming and jumping from the boat. By the way, I´ll put here the best jumping pic I took of my wife´s father.

One of the things I didn´t expect was to see a squid. One squid appeared near the boat and the kids grabbed it so quickly. Poor squid, surely it was part of the dinner.
